The Parish Council has published its Risk Assessment covering risks related to Covid-19 and the control measures the Council will take to reduce and eliminate the risks. The Parish Council continues to implement the control measures and the risk assessment is reviewed and updated regularly. Those highlighted yellow are the measures which are likely to mostly apply to the Parish Council’s Youth Clubs.

Each year the Council’s Annual Return, which we published yesterday, is audited by an auditor appointed by Public Sector Audit Appointments Limited.  Any person interested has the right to inspect and make copies of the accounts to be audited and all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts relating to them. For the year ended 31 March 2020 these documents will be available on reasonable notice on application to:

commencing on 15 June 2020

and ending on   24 July 2020.

Local Government Electors and their representatives also have:

• the opportunity to question the auditor about the accounts; and
• the right to make objections to the accounts or any item in them.

Written notice of an objection must first be given to the auditor and a copy sent to the Council. The auditor can be contacted at the address below for this purpose during the inspection period identified above.  The audit is being conducted under the provisions of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014, the Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2015 and the National Audit Office’ Code of Audit Practice.  Your audit is being carried out by:

Its a difficult time for everyone and particularly our local businesses.

We are proud of our businesses and particularly, at the moment, those that are providing for our basic needs through remaining open and providing take away and delivery services. Our community is encourages to shop locally for our basic needs.

We can help our existing business by heeding advice and staying indoors. The more we can slow down the virus the more likely we can get things back to normal.

We know that businesses that have been forced to close are eagerly awaiting being allowed to reopen. Most will be planning for that eventuality. We are therefore delighted that ‘Wing and a Prayer’ has joined our business directory. This popular shop sells the produce of around 35 local businesses. During closure they will be promoting the sale of their products that customers can have waiting for them once they are able to reopen. Check out their facebook page for details.

The Parish Council is having to restrict its activities due to the impact of the coronavirus.

Restrictions have been introduced for the moment:

• Council meetings will go ahead with precautions in place
• Committee meetings may be cancelled
• Youth Clubs are closed
• Volunteer litter picks are cancelled
• Parish planning events are postponed, and
• The Council will not open to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays.

At this difficult time we want to look after the most vulnerable in our community and particularly our older people.

Our Coxhoe Cares volunteer scheme is about being available to help our older people. It is also about volunteers coming forward to enable us to provide that support. The Parish Council has limited powers and responsibilities in respect of public health. It can, however, act a voice for the community. It can also use its resources to help co-ordinate a community response to the current situation aimed at supporting the most vulnerable in the communities of Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill.

We know that our communities will be responding to those who need help. Family will be looking out for family and friends. However we want to make sure no one in our community is left isolated, out of touch or lonely where we can. We want to make sure that our older people have someone they can have a chat with if they are unsure about things. We also want to make sure that, during self isolation, those who have no available support from family and friends have someone who can go to the shops for them.

While we can act as a point of contact and co-ordinators we need more volunteers on the ground to support our older people. Please come forward to support our community.

Anyone can be a victim of scams.

Scams affect the lives of millions of people across the UK and it is often the most vulnerable members of society who are targeted. People who are scammed often experience loneliness, shame and social isolation.

The aim of Friends Against Scams is to inspire action, highlight the scale of the problem, change the perceptions of why people fall victim to scams and make scams a local, regional and national topic.

Friends Against Scams aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities to take a stand against scams.

The Parish Council needs members of the community to come forward to become Parish councillors to serve the Quarrington Hill.

A vacancy that arose at the start of the winter has still not been filled. Now as a result of the resignation of Julie Smith there is now no-one acting as a councillor representing the Quarrington Hill ward.
