There is a series of Remembrance events coming up next month.
Firstly as part of our contribution to ‘Battle’s Over – A Nation’s Tribute to WW1 Beacons of Light’, Coxhoe Parish Council have arranged two WW1 Commemoration Events to pay tribute to, and remember those who fought, in the First World War; especially those from Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill.
These are outdoor events, open to all residents of Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill. The Events will be attended by our local Parish Councillors, church representatives, dignitaries, volunteers and schoolchildren as follows;
Coxhoe Village Green and Quarrington Hill Playing Fields
Sunday 11th November 2018 starting 6.30 pm (Beacon Lighting 7 pm)
Beacons will be lit at 7 pm following the Last Post played after a short Remembrance Service. Both events will have after event refreshments available to all (in the Village Hall at Coxhoe and at the Community Centre in Quarrington Hill),
Please keep an eye out on the Parish Council’s noticeboards at both Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill, and on Coxhoe Parish Council’s website and facebook page nearer the time for final details.
The Parish Council have also been successful in securing funding for 5 ‘There But Not There’ seated Silhouettes, as awarded by the ‘There But Not There and Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust Grant scheme’. The Silhouettes will be placed in our local churches and community venues around the Parish (both in Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill) and will be a defining centenary commemoration of the end of the 1914-1918 war; and installed where the men and women could have been, back in the communities they left behind.
Our usual Remembrance Day services will still be taking place and will be held at the War Memorial in Coxhoe 11am on 11 November and in Quarrington Hill at 11am on 9 November.
Finally, while not a Parish Council event, the village’s Annual Concert of Remembrance will also be held in the Village Hall on Friday 9th November starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 each payable on the door.
If you’d like to know more about the events or be involved in some way, then please contact the Parish Council’s Administration Assistant, Karen Williams on 0191 377 3658 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
